     Gen. James Holt Clanton was born on 8 January 1827 at Columbia Co., Georgia. He was the son of Nathaniel Holt Clanton. Gen. James Holt Clanton began military service in 1846 at the U. S. Army during the Mexican War enlisted as a private. He married Parthenia Abercrombie, daughter of Hon. James Charles Abercrombie and Evelina Elizabeth Ross, on 21 September 1853 at Russell Co., Alabama. Gen. James Holt Clanton ended military service in 1865; Brigadier General, C.S.A., wounded and captured at Bluff Springs, Florida. He appeared on the census of 1870 at Montgomery Ward 3, Montgomery Co., Alabama. He died on 26 September 1871 at Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee, at age 44; Shot and killed by a political rival. Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. He was the son of Nathaniel Holt Clanton and a Miss Clayton. The family settled in Macon County, Alabama in 1835 and that is where he grew up and went to school. He enrolled at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, but his higher education was cut short when he volunteered for the US Army in the war with Mexico.
He enlisted as a private in Captain Rush Elmore's Company, Colonel Bailie Peyton's Regiment. After his six month enlistment, he enlisted with Captain Preston Brooks of the Palmetto Regiment. By the time they reached Mexico, the occupation of Mexico City had ended. After the war he returned to his study of law and was admitted to the bar in 1850 and he settled in Montgomery, Alabama. He served in the Alabama legislature and was an elector on the Presidential ticket of Bell and Everett in 1860. He opposed secession, but favored unity so he promptly went into the Confederate Army when Alabama voted for secession.
Having had military experience, he was elected captain of a mounted company. He served on the Florida coast until the fall of 1861 when he was promoted to colonel in the First Alabama Cavalry. After seeing action at Shiloh and Farmington, he led a brigade into Booneville and drove the enemy from the field. He raised three more regiments in the spring of 1863 and was commissioned as brigadier-general in the provisional army of the Confederate States. In 1864 he was engaged in a bloody fight with Gen Rousseau at Ten Islands on the Coosa River, in which he lost his entire staff. His bravery made him well known by the generals of the Army of Tennessee. His brigade was moved to the department of Alabama, Mississippi and East Louisiana.
In 1865 he replaced Gen Baker at Pollard and later engaged an enemy raiding party. In March of 1865 he was badly wounded and captured at Bluff Springs, Fl. While recovering from his wounds, he was released on May 25, 1865. He returned to his law practice and resumed his role as a leader of the Alabama Democratic Party.
He was murdered by a political rival, David M. Nelson, who shot Clanton at Knoxville, Tennessee.

     Mary Clanton was born at Montgomery Co., Alabama. She was the daughter of Gen. James Holt Clanton and Parthenia Abercrombie.

     Thomas W. Clanton was born in 1861 at Montgomery, Alabama. He was the son of Gen. James Holt Clanton and Parthenia Abercrombie. Thomas W.      Holt C. Clanton was born in 1866 at Montgomery Co., Alabama. He was the son of Gen. James Holt Clanton and Parthenia Abercrombie. Holt C. Clanton appeared on the census of 1870 at household of James H. Clanton, Montgomery, Montgomery Co., Alabama.

     Nathaniel Holt Clanton married Mary Ann Clayton, daughter of Charles C. Clayton, in 1826 at Columbia Co., Georgia.

     Georgia Magruder Smith was born in June 1863 at Georgia. She was the daughter of Dr. Milton MgGrath Smith and Sue Magruder Smith. As of 1882,her married name was Abercrombie. Georgia Magruder Smith married Clarence Abercrombie, son of John Lucas Abercrombie and America Watson, in 1882. Georgia Magruder Smith died on 3 February 1941 at Macon Co., Alabama, at age 77.

     Perry Magruder Abercrombie was born on 7 December 1882 at Alabama. He was the son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith. Perry Magruder Abercrombie married Sallie M. (?). Perry Magruder Abercrombie died in March 1937 at Macon Co., Alabama, at age 54.

     Leslie Sheldon Abercrombie was born on 21 April 1887 at Tuskegee, Macon Co., Alabama. He was the son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith. Leslie Sheldon Abercrombie married Mary Iris Scanlon in 1914.

     Milton Smith Abercrombie was born on 22 February 1889 at Tuskegee, Alabama. He was the son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith. Milton Smith Abercrombie married Nellie Elizabeth Bewley. Milton Smith Abercrombie was owned his own tailor shop at Bristol, Tennessee. He died circa 1960 at Bristol, Tennessee.

     Elaine Abercrombie was born in May 1891 at Alabama. She was the daughter of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith.

     James Gustavus Abercrombie was born on 11 February 1893 at Tuskegee, Macon Co., Alabama. He was the son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith. James Gustavus Abercrombie married May (?) in 1925.

     Clorice Abercrombie is the daughter of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith.

     Her married name was Abercrombie. Sallie M. (?) was born in 1885 at Alabama. She married Perry Magruder Abercrombie, son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith. Sallie M. (?) died on 4 December 1951 at Macon Co., Alabama.

     Mary Iris Scanlon was born in 1891 at Virginia. As of 1914,her married name was Abercrombie. She married Leslie Sheldon Abercrombie, son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith, in 1914.

     Her married name was Abercrombie. Nellie Elizabeth Bewley was born in 1906 at Tennessee. She married Milton Smith Abercrombie, son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith.

     May (?) married James Gustavus Abercrombie, son of Clarence Abercrombie and Georgia Magruder Smith, in 1925.

     Mary Ann Clayton was born in 1810 at Columbia Co., Georgia. She was the daughter of Charles C. Clayton. As of 1826,her married name was Clanton. Mary Ann Clayton married Nathaniel Holt Clanton in 1826 at Columbia Co., Georgia. Mary Ann Clayton was buried on 8 December 1842 at Clanton Cemetery, Macon Co., Alabama. She died on 8 December 1842 at Macon Co., Alabama.

     Charles C. Clayton married Hannah Doggett.

     William Mebane was born in 1741 at Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He was the son of Alexander Mebane and Mary Tinnin. William Mebane married Jane Abercrombie, daughter of Robert Abercrombie and Jane Gresham, in 1766 at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. William Mebane died in August 1803 at Orange Co., North Carolina.

     William Brown Mebane was born in 1772 at Orange Co., North Carolina. He was the son of William Mebane and Jane Abercrombie. William Brown Mebane married Frances Woods on 16 January 1791 at Orange Co., North Carolina. William Brown Mebane died in 1840 at Hawfields Church, Alamance Co., North Carolina.

     Dicy Mebane was born on 21 March 1814 at Orange Co., North Carolina. She was the daughter of William Brown Mebane and Frances Woods. As of 7 May 1842,her married name was Morrow. Dicy Mebane married Josiah A. Morrow on 7 May 1842 at Orange Co., North Carolina. Dicy Mebane appeared on the census of 1850 at District 75, Ray, Missouri. She died on 11 April 1877 at age 63.

     Rosaltha Warren was born in 1854 at Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska. As of 5 December 1877,her married name was Morrow. She married James Morgan Morrow, son of Josiah A. Morrow and Dicy Mebane, on 5 December 1877. Rosaltha Warren died in 1929.

     Her married name was Cunningham. Myrta Foreman Morrow married Allen F. Cunningham. Myrta Foreman Morrow was born on 5 October 1880 at Ray Co., Missouri. She was the daughter of James Morgan Morrow and Rosaltha Warren. Myrta Foreman Morrow appeared on the census of 1910 at Polk, Ray Co., Missouri. She appeared on the census of 1920 at San Angelo, Tom Green Co., Texas. She appeared on the census of 1930 at Paris, Lamar Co., Texas. She died in 1972.

     Allen F. Cunningham married Myrta Foreman Morrow, daughter of James Morgan Morrow and Rosaltha Warren. Allen F. Cunningham was born circa 1877 at Scotland. He immigrated in 1895. He appeared on the census of 1910 at Ward 2, Belton, Bell Co., Texas. He appeared on the census of 1930 at Paris, Lamar Co., Texas.

     Warren Beaty Cunningham is the son of Allen F. Cunningham and Myrta Foreman Morrow. Warren Beaty Cunningham married Minnie M. Stubblefield.
