Charles Moore, Deed. Charles Moore of Tyron Co, deed to his son in law Andrew Barry, a blacksmith, to land on both sides of Tyger River, on Lawson's Creek, bounded by the lands of Hugh Lawson. (This land was below the [border] of the present NC, SC, but at that time was considered a part of Tryon Co.) The deed was executed between 1762 and 1779, which was the lifetime of Tryon County. It shows that Hugh Lawson owned lands in upper SC at the time of his death, which adjoined lands belonging to Charles Moore, Lawson wife having been Mary Moore, a sister of Charles Moore, and the daughter of a Charles Moore and his wife Margaret Barry, the parents of Prof. Charles Moore. It has become customary among genealogical writers on the Lawson family to say Hugh Lawson first settled in Pennsylvania, from whence he came to Virginia with brothers John and Roger. One who has traced his connecting lines back, however, states that he and his brothers were cousins, some degrees removed, from the early Virginia emigrants, Rowland and Epaphroditus Lawson and Christopher Lawson. The exact statement of Mrs. Caroline Belle Price on this matter is:"The record of Epaphroditus Lawson and Rowland Lawson, of Virginia, shows that their ancestor, Sir Henry Lawson of 'Brough Hall' (in England) was the father of their cousin Capt. John Lawson, from whom Col. Hugh Lawson descended." Mrs. Price further says: "Hugh Lawson married Mary Moore, daughter of Charles Moore and Margaret Barry." Genealogy Notes Pertaining to Census Records of Mecklenburg County - District No. 7
Between Cowan's Ford and Beattie's Ford, on the Catawba, and a short distance from the old river itself, as attempted to be portrayed on this map, is the burial place of the early religious patriot and missionary Rev. John Thomson, known as Baker's Graveyard. In this place also sleep the last remains of Mary Price, sister of Major John Davidson; Hugh Lawson, father-in-law of Hugh Barry and Samuel Baker. Up to some fifty years ago there were crude head and foot stones, on one of which was carved the initials "H-L" marking the grave of Hugh Lawson. Now the spot is a shambles, yielding at last to the ravages of centuries, its enclosing stone fence torn down to build a highway for the modern speeding generations. The stately oaks, under which Rev. John Thomson delivered his stirring pioneer sermons between 1751 and 1753, no longer spread their sacred foliage to the Catawba breezes, but there are still signs of unmistakable import that they once marked the hallowed spot, now passing into the oblivion of forgotten history.
[Rev. John Thomson, father-in-law of Samuel Baker; Hugh Lawson, father-in-law of Hugh Barry] Hugh Lawson was born in 1705 at Ulster County, Ireland. He was the son of John Roger Lawson and Mary McConnell. Hugh Lawson emigrated in 1727; Came to America on the ship George and Anne, with brothers John and Roger. He married Mary Moore, daughter of Charles Moore and Mary Barry, in 1729 at North Carolina. After arrival in America, we have records only on Hugh Lawson. Hugh settled in Chester Co., Pennsylvania, and moved to Lunenburg Co., Virginia, about 1743. Judge of the first Court of the County, JP, Became a Member of Virginia Assembly May 5, 1746. Virginia Historical Magazine, Vol X p321, Records Joseph Habersham DAR - 400, 534, 587. Hugh Lawson died in 1772 at Rowan Co., North Carolina.

In the name of God Amen, I Robert Abercromby of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men and to die and do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally & just of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executor, hereafter named, and as touching sent worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless one in this Life. I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner & form. First I give to my loving son Charles Abercromby two Negroes, one named Billo, the other named Arshell to him and his heirs forever. I also give, bequeath, & demise all that Tract or parcel of Land on Ellebass Creek where I now dwell to my son Charles Abercromby his heirs and assigns forever. Also I give, bequeath & devise to my loving son Robert Abercromby three negroes named Radgin, Buck and Peter and my copper still & Capp to him and his heirs forever. I give to my daughter Jenny Miban five pounds current money of North Carolina State & no more. And the residue of my Estate both real & personal after payment of all my just Debts Viz Money, Horses, Hor-Cattle, Hoggs, Household Goods with all the Movables whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my loving sons Charles Abercromby and Robert Abercromby (to be equally divided between them) to them and each of them and their heirs forever. Lastly I nominate, constitute & appoint my sons Charles Abercromby & Robert Abercromby Executors of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking and disannulling all other will or wills by me made either in word or writing. In witness whereof I said Robert Abercromby have to this my last will and testament set my hand & affixed my seal this thirty first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy nine. Signed, sealed and delivered by the said Robert Abercromby the Testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of William Saxon, James X Dinin, Enoch Lewis. Signature of Robert Abercromby.
Orange County, August Court 1779. The Execution of the above will was duly proved in open Court by the oaths of Wm Saxon & James Dinin two of the subscribing Witnesses thereto sed Judgment for Nine.
Many researchers show the father of Robert Abercrombie, Sr., to be Sir James Abercrombie, who was the Second Baronet of Birkenbog. However, according to Burke's Genealogical & Heraldic Dictionary of the Peerage and Baronage (Sir John Burke), Sir James Abercrombie did have a son named Robert, but that son succeeded his father and stayed in Scotland. That Robert died in 1787 and was succeeded by his son George.
It is far from clear that Sir James had two sons both named Robert, which many researchers seem to indicate. From Ancestry.com 29 Dec 2009:
