     Mr. Gibson was a man of importance both as merchant and sherriff of Oxford County; although too young to be a soldier in the War of 1812, he often served "at camp" with his brother Lt. Robert Gibson while the latter was on duty. Samuel Gibson was born on 22 February 1797 at Henniker, New Hampshire. He was the son of Capt. Timothy Gibson II and Margaret Whitman. Samuel Gibson married Rebecca Howard, daughter of Hon. Joseph Howard and Rebecca Gleason, on 25 November 1818. "A History of Norway by David Noyes was issued this year [1852]. The writer, manufacturer of the paper used, printer and binder of the book were all residents of Norway. -- Hon. Samuel Gibson became a resident here this year. He had been sheriff of the county, and also held other important offices. He removed to Bryant's Pond where for several years he was in trade with his son, George E. Gibson. He later returned to Norway." Samuel Gibson died on 11 September 1865 at Norway, Maine, at age 68. He was buried circa 12 September 1865 at Rustfield Cemetery.

     Rebecca Howard was born on 1 May 1793. She was the daughter of Hon. Joseph Howard and Rebecca Gleason. As of 25 November 1818,her married name was Gibson. Rebecca Howard married Samuel Gibson, son of Capt. Timothy Gibson II and Margaret Whitman, on 25 November 1818. Rebecca Howard died on 20 September 1879 at age 86.

     Hon. Joseph Howard was born at Brownfield. He married Rebecca Gleason.

     Rebecca Gleason was born at Brownfield. Her married name was Howard. She married Hon. Joseph Howard.

     Izah B. P. Gibson was born on 13 August 1819 at Denmark, Maine. She was the daughter of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard. As of 9 April 1840,her married name was Tenney. Izah B. P. Gibson married Rev. Timothy J. Tenney on 9 April 1840. Izah B. P. Gibson was buried in 1899 at Rustfield Cemetery. She died on 22 September 1899 at Norway, Maine, at age 80.

     Rev. Timothy J. Tenney was born on 22 January 1807 at Weare, New Hampshire. He married Izah B. P. Gibson, daughter of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard, on 9 April 1840. Rev. Timothy J. Tenney died on 8 October 1854 at Glover, Vermont, at age 47.

     Rebecca Gleason Gibson was born on 23 November 1821 at Denmark, Maine. She was the daughter of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard. As of 4 October 1843,her married name was Howe. Rebecca Gleason Gibson married Jesse Howe M. D. on 4 October 1843. Rebecca Gleason Gibson died on 26 October 1884 at age 62.

     Jesse Howe M. D. was born at Lincoln, Maine. He was graduated in 1840 at Bowdoin Medical School, Brunswick, Maine. He married Rebecca Gleason Gibson, daughter of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard, on 4 October 1843. Jesse Howe M. D. died on 25 February 1875 at Norway, Maine.

     Capt. Samuel Freeman Gibson was born on 9 April 1823 at Denmark, Maine. He was the son of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard. Capt. Samuel Freeman Gibson married Abb Pattee, daughter of Moses Pattee and Hannah Farrington, on 1 June 1851. Capt. Samuel Freeman Gibson married Agnes M. Ayer, daughter of James Ayer and Cyrene Ayer, on 8 May 1864. Capt. Samuel Freeman Gibson died on 6 October 1889 at Bethel, Maine, at age 66.

     Abb Pattee was born on 24 September 1831. She was the daughter of Moses Pattee and Hannah Farrington. As of 1 June 1851,her married name was Gibson. Abb Pattee married Capt. Samuel Freeman Gibson, son of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard, on 1 June 1851. Abb Pattee died on 4 March 1861 at age 29.

     Moses Pattee married Hannah Farrington.

     Agnes M. Ayer was born on 10 May 1832 at Newfield, Maine. She was the daughter of James Ayer and Cyrene Ayer. As of 8 May 1864,her married name was Gibson. Agnes M. Ayer married Capt. Samuel Freeman Gibson, son of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard, on 8 May 1864.

     James Ayer married Cyrene Ayer.

     Cyrene Ayer married James Ayer.

     William Henry Gibson was born on 15 November 1825 at Denmark, Maine. He was the son of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard. William Henry Gibson died on 19 October 1828 at age 2.

     Charles Gibson was born on 9 April 1830 at Denmark, Maine. He was the son of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Howard. Charles Gibson died on 31 January 1831.

     Capt. Timothy Gibson II was born on 17 December 1738 at Stow, Massachusetts. He was the son of Capt. Timothy Gibson and Persis Rice. Capt. Timothy Gibson II married Margaret Whitman, daughter of Zechariah Whitman, on 20 February 1773. Capt. Timothy Gibson II died on 16 January 1814 at Brownfield, Maine, at age 75. He was buried circa 17 January 1814 at Burnt Meadow Brook cemetery; the old East Brownfield cemetery.

     Descendant of John Whitman, the English pioneer in Weymouth, Mass. in 1638. Margaret Whitman was born on 14 January 1755 at Stow, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Zechariah Whitman. As of 20 February 1773,her married name was Gibson. Margaret Whitman married Capt. Timothy Gibson II, son of Capt. Timothy Gibson and Persis Rice, on 20 February 1773. Margaret Whitman died on 29 June 1838 at Brownfield, Maine, at age 83.

     Zechariah Whitman married Elizabeth Gates.

     Elizabeth Gates married Zechariah Whitman.

     Capt. Timothy Gibson was born on 20 January 1702 at Stow, Massachusetts. He was the son of Deac. Timothy Gibson and Rebecca Gates. Capt. Timothy Gibson married Persis Rice, daughter of Dea. Jonathan Rice and Anne Darby, on 29 December 1725. Capt. Timothy Gibson died on 18 January 1782 at Henniker, New Hampshire, at age 79.

     Persis Rice was born on 10 January 1706/7 at Sudbury, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Dea. Jonathan Rice and Anne Darby. As of 29 December 1725,her married name was Gibson. Persis Rice married Capt. Timothy Gibson, son of Deac. Timothy Gibson and Rebecca Gates, on 29 December 1725. Persis Rice died on 22 March 1781 at Henniker, Massachusetts, at age 74.

     Dea. Jonathan Rice married Anne Darby.

     Her married name was Rice. Anne Darby married Dea. Jonathan Rice.

     "He was taken into the family of Abraham Holman of Cambridge soon after his father's death and went with him to Stow, Mass. about 1690. Mr. Homan treated him as his own child and made him executor of his will. In 1703, he settled in Sudbury, Mass., and joined the church and was a deacon for many years....He married Rebecca Gates of Stow...They had twelve children -- nine boys and three girls. It was a stalwart race of men. Four of his sons who settled in Lunenburg, Mass., were of such great size, strength and courage that the Indians did not dare to attack them." Deac. Timothy Gibson was born circa 1679 at Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Gibson Jr. and Rebecca Errington. Deac. Timothy Gibson married Rebecca Gates, daughter of Stephen Gates and Sarah Woodward, on 17 November 1700 at Concord, Massachusetts; by Rev. Minot. Deac. Timothy Gibson married Mrs. Submit Taylor on 30 November 1755. Deac. Timothy Gibson died on 14 July 1757 at Stow, Massachusetts.

     Rebecca Gates was born on 23 July 1682 at Marlboro, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Stephen Gates and Sarah Woodward. As of 17 November 1700,her married name was Gibson. Rebecca Gates married Deac. Timothy Gibson, son of John Gibson Jr. and Rebecca Errington, on 17 November 1700 at Concord, Massachusetts; by Rev. Minot. Rebecca Gates died on 21 January 1754 at Stow, Massachusetts, at age 71.

     Stephen Gates married Sarah Woodward.

     Her married name was Gates. Sarah Woodward married Stephen Gates.

      As of 30 November 1755,her married name was Gibson. Mrs. Submit Taylor married Deac. Timothy Gibson, son of John Gibson Jr. and Rebecca Errington, on 30 November 1755. Mrs. Submit Taylor died on 29 January 1759 at Stow, Massachusetts.
