Immediately after admission to the bar, he started for California, where he began the practice of law with his cousin, Nelson Forsyth (brother of James). He served as Justice of the Peace for 1869-1873 for Tulare County. At the time of his death, he was the oldest lawyer in Tulare County, having been an active member of the bar for more than 50 years. in 1922 at Visalia, CA. He died on 13 October 1922 at Visalia, CA, at age 76.
