     Paschal Bequette II was born on 26 December 1845 at Dodge's Grove, Iowa Co., Wisconsin. He was the son of Col. Paschal Bequette and Elizabeth Piety Dodge. Paschal Bequette II married Martha Lovinia Clarke, daughter of James Thomas Clarke and Mary Anna Graves, on 27 June 1875; conflicting date 14 Jan 1872 (65). Paschal Bequette II was appointed Deputy County Assessor for Tulare County in June 1893 at Visalia, Tulare Co., CA. Paschal Bequette was in his seventh year when his family moved to California. His education was begun in San Francisco and continued at Visalia, and it was in the office of the Visalia Delta that he served a five years' apprenticeship at the printer's trade. When he had perfected himself in his knowledge of "the art preservative of all arts" he went to Havilah, Kern county, and became half owner of the Courier, a newspaper published in that town. In 1869 he disposed of his interests at Havilah, and became a student at a business college at San Francisco, and in 1871 and in 1872 he was connected with the Los Angeles News for a year. Returning to Visalia in the year last mentioned, he bought a half interest in the Visalia Times, which he disposed of eventually in order to engage in sheep raising in Kern county. On his return to Tulare county he took up general farming and interested himself more actively in local politics than he had ever done before. He served eight years as deputy county assessor, four years in the United States land office, four years as under-sheriff, in the administration of B. B. Parker, and he is now [1913] deputy county recorder and deputy county treasurer. All of these various offices he has filed with ability and integrity which have commended him to the good opinion of his fellow citizens of all classes.
In 1875 Mr. Bequette married Martha L. Clarke, who has borne him children as follows: Augustus D., Paschal, Mary C., Elizabeth T., and James C. Mrs. Bequette is a daughter of James T. Clarke, a Mexican war veteran, and a California pioneer of 1849, who was a prominent early stock-raiser in this state. Her mother, who was Mary A. Graves, was a member of the famous Donner party, the awful experiences of which are a part of the history of pioneer immigration to California. Led by a man named Donner, these pioneers were snow-bound at the point now known as Donner Lake in Nevada county, Cal., and a great number of them starved to death. He died on 26 December 1929 at Visalia, CA, at age 84. He was buried on 26 December 1929 at Visalia Cemetery, Visalia, CA; Section D, Block D, Lot 39, N/E grave.

      Martha Lovinia Clarke was also known as Martha Lavinia Clarke. She was born on 4 August 1854. She was the daughter of James Thomas Clarke and Mary Anna Graves. As of 14 January 1875,her married name was Bequette. Martha Lovinia Clarke married Paschal Bequette II, son of Col. Paschal Bequette and Elizabeth Piety Dodge, on 27 June 1875; conflicting date 14 Jan 1872 (65). Martha Lovinia Clarke was buried on 16 January 1926 at Visalia Cemetery, Visalia, CA; Section D, Block D, Lot 39, N/E grave (cremated remains). She died on 16 January 1926 at Fresno, CA, at age 71.

     Augustus Dodge Bequette was born on 18 June 1876 at Visalia, CA. He was the son of Paschal Bequette II and Martha Lovinia Clarke. Augustus Dodge Bequette died in 1964 at Visalia, CA.

     Col. Paschal Bequette was born on 24 October 1805 at St. Genevieve, St. Genevieve Co., Missouri. He was the son of Jean Baptiste Bequette III and Marie Louise Mesplait. Col. Paschal Bequette married Elizabeth Piety Dodge, daughter of Henry Dodge and Christiana McDonald, on 25 November 1832 at Dodge's Grove, Iowa Co., Wisconsin. Col. Paschal Bequette emigrated in September 1852 from Placerville, CA; P. Beckquett /sic/ shown in list of overland emigrants who had arrived in Placerville during the first week of September, 1852. He appeared on the census of 1860 at Tulare County, CA. He appeared on the census of 1870 at Tulare County, CA. He died on 2 December 1879 at Visalia, CA, at age 74. His estate was probated on 6 January 1880 at Superior Court, Tulare County.

     Elizabeth Piety Dodge was born on 22 March 1814 at St. Genevieve, Missouri. She was the daughter of Henry Dodge and Christiana McDonald. As of 25 November 1832,her married name was Bequette. Elizabeth Piety Dodge married Col. Paschal Bequette, son of Jean Baptiste Bequette III and Marie Louise Mesplait, on 25 November 1832 at Dodge's Grove, Iowa Co., Wisconsin. Elizabeth Piety Dodge died on 11 September 1883 at Visalia, CA, at age 69. Her estate was probated on 19 September 1883 at Superior Court, Tulare County, CA.

     Jean Baptiste Bequette III was born on 2 October 1779 at St. Genevieve, Missouri. He was the son of Jean Baptiste Bequette II and Louise LaSource. Jean Baptiste Bequette III married Marie Louise Mesplait, daughter of Pierre Mesplait and Genevieve Duran, on 29 January 1799 at St. Genevieve, Missouri. Jean Baptiste Bequette III died on 30 October 1825 at Missouri at age 46.

     Marie Louise Mesplait was born in 1780 at New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Pierre Mesplait and Genevieve Duran. As of 1799,her married name was Bequette. Marie Louise Mesplait married Jean Baptiste Bequette III, son of Jean Baptiste Bequette II and Louise LaSource, on 29 January 1799 at St. Genevieve, Missouri. Marie Louise Mesplait died on 7 July 1864 at Dodgeville, Wisconsin.

     Dodgeville, WI, and Dodge County, WI, were named after him. Henry Dodge was born on 12 October 1782 at Post Vincennes, Indiana; first American child born in what now constitutes the State of Indiana. He was the son of Israel Dodge and Nancy Ann Hunter. Henry Dodge married Christiana McDonald, daughter of James McDonald and Elizabeth Piety, on 26 March 1801 at Bonhomme Settlement, near St. Louis, Missouri. Henry Dodge was Governor of Wisconsin Territory on 30 April 1836. He was U. S. House of Representatives, 27th Congress on 7 December 1841 at Wisconsin. He was U. S. Senator from Wisconsin, 1848-1857, served 2 terms in 1848. He died on 19 June 1867 at Burlington, Iowa, at age 84.

     Christiana McDonald was born on 2 February 1785 at Bardstown, Kentucky. She was the daughter of James McDonald and Elizabeth Piety. As of 1800,her married name was Dodge. Christiana McDonald married Henry Dodge, son of Israel Dodge and Nancy Ann Hunter, on 26 March 1801 at Bonhomme Settlement, near St. Louis, Missouri. Christiana McDonald died on 30 March 1865 at Burlington, Iowa, at age 80.

     Henry Dodge Bequette was born on 25 October 1833 at Dodge's Grove, Iowa Co., Wisconsin. He was the son of Col. Paschal Bequette and Elizabeth Piety Dodge. Henry Dodge Bequette died on 12 December 1904 at Visalia, CA, at age 71.
